Jazz Age Lawn Party, Governors Island 2011

3 Sep

Boarding a ferry to chug across the waterways to an isle adjacent to the island of Manhattan kind of sets the mood perfectly for a weekend of a Roaring 20s Jazz Age Lawn Party. Come sail with me to Governors Island, where all the magic unfolds.

Dapper gents and sexy flappers crowded the picturesque lawns of Governors Island as the hot jazz had more than just the romantic elms sway in the summer breeze during the 6th annual Jazz Age Lawn Party.

Thousands basked in the summer sun — picnicking, frolicking and Charlestoning the likes to which haven’t been seen since the Roaring 20s. Naturally, the vintage styles were abundant and just about too overwhelming to capture in the sea of exciting fun.

But just before a torrential thunderstorm cracked open on the Sunday afternoon’s closing song, I filmed two quick style profiles on vintage enthusiasts, Justin and Matthew … Enjoy!

Justin Salsberg wears a mix of modern and origina vintage pieces to style his 1920s look which was complete with heirloom details -- such as his grandfather's pipe and WWI service medal, as well as his father's corn cob cane.
