Vivid Green: Hot for Fall 2011

20 Apr

It’s not St. Patrick’s Day and, yet wearing vivid green is part of the Fall 2011 color trends. Worried about looking like a leprechaun?

On Thrifty Vintage Chic, Robin Wallace gives tips on how to wear vivid green for Fall 2011.

My sisters tell me that I am the only person who could every find two vintage Kelly green polyester shirts (at separate stores) and then decide to wear them together.

While my luck might match that of a horseshoe, I do have a few tips from this ensemble which will inspire you to embrace this fall’s color trend of vivid green. But first, let’s give the head-to-toe a “once-over”, shall we?

How Much for ‘Vivid Green: Hot for Fall 2011’? $21.50

$.25 Red Patton Leather Belt (Goodwill Outlet, Lancaster, Pa.)
$.50 Vintage White Long Beads (Thrift Store, Honey Brook, Pa.)
$.75 Vintage Green Polyester Shirt (Goodwill Outlet, Lancaster, Pa.)
$3 Red Feather Hair Detail (AC Moore, Secaucus, NJ)
$3 Vintage White & Green Polyester Shirt (Salvation Army, West Chester, Pa.)
$5 Red Quilted Patton Leather Shoes (South Street, Philadelphia)
$9 Black Trousers (Clearance Sale, Gap)

{So} What’s the Take-Away?

Glow like a Tiffany Mosaic!

I’ve worn both these shirts separately, and I have worn them without the red pop of color (opting for a white belt and washed out blue jeans) but this rendition is my going-all-out for Fall 2011 look.

Red is also another hot color trend for Fall 2011, so combining the two colors was a fun and very bold stance I took. So here’s what you need to know to make your “vivid green” look a smashing success.

1. Mash-up styles. A way to diffuse what may seem like a glaring neon glow from wearing a bright color is to pair it with a more conservative or traditional style of pants, skirt or shirt.

2. Build layers. This helps break up the bold color by adding another pattern or color to create a look that flows from head-to-toe. But, it is always best to have your layers reference each other — an extreme example is my double-shirted look where the patterns and colors mirror each other.

3. Have accents. From an accent color to the accent of accessories, be sure to give your vivid green look plenty of finishing detail. To be extra bold, follow my lead of going with another vivid color, or play chic-sophisticate and go with a neutral-toned accent, such as white, beige or black.

And the best advice regarding this fall’s color trends can be summed up in this great quote from the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman:

“The big picture theme is a Mosaic of Color and Style.”

I want to know: How will you wear ‘vivid green’ this fall?

Wow, so timely again. Orange on St. Pat’s Day, and now GREEN for EARTH DAY this week! I have been wearing a lot of green at work this week since I’m on the Eco Task Force. Unfortunately I look horrible in pale green due to my skin tone. But I do like your blouse combo. It is a great contrast with your hair and makes your hair color pop!

oo, that would be amazing, but sadly – no. And even more upsetting is the fact that I own absolutely zero Bakelite! Shocking, right?

That is a sad thought indeed 😦
A girl should have a Bakelite bracelet if she can!
Keep your eyes open, I am sure in all that vintage/antique/thrift shopping you will find one.
